Principal’s Message

Happy New Year to the entire Glenwood community – students, families, and staff!  I hope you had a wonderful winter break that was both restive and festive!  I would also like to thank all of you for being so welcoming to me during my first week as Vice-Principal.  I knew that I was coming to a great school and look forward to working with all of you to continue to make our school a safe and supportive, place for your children to learn.

I come to Glenwood with 25 years of experience and feel fortunate to have had quite a varied career in education.  My initial training was as an elementary generalist and secondary music specialist.  During the first phase of my career, I taught more at the elementary level than at the secondary level – Music, French, and Band.  Later I taught Concert Band, Jazz Band, French, and a smattering of other classes at the secondary level and was the Visual and Performing Arts Department Head at two Burnaby high schools.  I’ve been a Faculty Associate at Simon Fraser University where I taught and supervised both elementary generalist and secondary arts specialist student teachers on their way to becoming certified.  Most recently I was the Burnaby School District’s Program Consultant for the Visual and Performing Arts – a position supporting elementary and secondary Arts Education K-12 across the District.  While in that role I was also a member of the Ministry of Education’s writing team for the K-9 and 10-12 Arts Education component of BC’s revised curriculum.

Enough about me!  I look forward to meeting more parents and getting to know students.  Please feel free to chat when you see me outside the school or at the office!  My e-mail address is

I’ve been very impressed by the staff and students at Glenwood in my first week here.   Students are actively engaged in their learning and I’ve seen many examples of leadership in the way that older students interact with their younger school mates.  I’ve also had a chance to spend time in each classroom and look forward to visiting often! The remainder of January looks like a great month of fun and learning from table tennis to a mobile museum – I’m so happy to be a part of it!
